  • Reformation of sorts… (#12 WTH?)

My totally lame and completely out of boredom post yesterday titled ‘Interest Me?’ is at number 12 on top blogs? What the heck? Sorry guys… lol. I was not expecting that. I’m happy I gained 3 new friends and some people I’d never heard of dropped comments. Not too shabby for randomly complaining about boredom and essentially blaming my subscriptions for not being interesting enough. Kinda sad when I say it that way, huh? You guys are awesome, I was just particularly bored and wanted some intellectual stimulation, passionate conversation… you know, something, anything to make me feel more alive while the weather sucks and nothing fun is happening.

School school school. Boring boring boring. No one wants to talk about that (even though its always on my mind as the time ticks away to my start date at the end of April).

A friend of mine just mentioned that in Catholism it was prophesied that the 112th pope would be the last. My response “wouldn’t it be neat if all the denominations melted away and the prophecy was true… if we really embraced unity in Christ without all the divisions that have kept us from community?” Just fed my desire for change in Christianity. I know reformation of sorts is necessary. Thoughts?

  • Jesus prayed for love and unity in John 17–looks like His prayer has not been answered yet.

I think unity and love of the Believers is lacking. I agree with you.
My Protestant Friends will argue joining a church that, in their opinion, teaches false doctrine cannot be joined. It is a thorny issue.
I do not place much value on these myths, but you are right that unity would make things and the cause of Christ so much better.

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW - It’s not about everyone believing everything exactly the same. That would never ever happen. The things we get caught up on could be resolved if we truly realized that love changes everything. It was supposed to change our mindsets from the Old Law to Christ… certainly with bringing down the walls of denomination will come some letting go of false traditions that don’t produce life. BUT, something first has to be said about the way we treat each other over those differences.

  • @xXrEMmUsXx - That is true, but it will be tough. Some of my Protestant friends will go down fighting for their doctrines.  Let us hope that love will prevail in the meantime.

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW - I was raised Pentecostal, but really don’t care to argue points that separate us any longer… division in that way just gives the devil hope.

If you think about the way we have evolved, the divisions were necessary to bring us to better revelations of God. But we have yet to evolve to the church who is known for their love.
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you may also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.
I think its coming though… but it will take time just like every other change that was necessary.
To be clear, I’m not talking about accepting false doctrines etc… but realizing there is a difference in interpretations and embracing one another rather than ideas and theology in replace of real relationship nurtured in love.

  • I hear a lot said about doing away with or marginalizing doctrine; but I don’t understand how that can be a good thing. Are they saying that believing anything and worshiping any god is the sort of unity they are desiring?

At the tower of Babel, the human race was planning to shut God out or to replace Him…you see how that turned out.

As Christians, our unity must be in Christ, not just the various ideas that people have of Him; but the one and only Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for us….that is doctrine, and we need to cling to it (Him).
